Tim Scott is the Junior Senator representing South Carolina. He was appointed to fill a vacancy left by retiring Senator Jim DeMint in December of 2012 by then Governor Nikki Haley. Scott currently serves on the following committees: Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Committee on Finance, Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Committee on Small Businesses and Entrepreneurship, and a Special Committee on Aging.
Prior to serving as Senator he served as a Representative in the South Carolina House of Representatives (2009-11) and the U.S. House of Representatives (2011-13).
Senator Scott launched his campaign for president on May 22nd, 2023 and suspended it only six months later on November 11th, 2023. His key views centered around workforce development, education, and diversity which was embodied in his mission statement “to positively affect the lives of a billion people”.
