Nikki Haley

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

Nikki Haley’s strong suit is her ability to relate with the people in Iowa, and she has made attempts to compare herself to them. Her main point when campaigning is solving the foreign policy issues that impact everyday Americans. An example is when she met with Iowan farmers and promised to stop Chinese advances in buying land in Iowa in addition to preventing agricultural goods from being exported to China for the direct purpose of being sold back in the US. Another point from the same press conference states that American corn farmers want to keep ethanol strong and prevent US dollars from going to other countries like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.[1]

Farmers stand behind Nikki Haley because they believe that she will fight for a better future for them by taking back their properties and profits from foreign countries.  Like the rest of the candidates, Nikki Haley is not working to beat Trump but to beat all the other candidates below Trump. Trump’s lead in Iowa is too large to catch, but delegates are still up for grabs for the other candidates. Haley is the candidate to keep your eyes on. In the most recent poll out of Iowa, Haley is now tied with DeSantis, and if the current trend continues, she will most likely overtake him.[2]

Riding this wave, relating to Iowa voters, and utilizing her foreign policy experience when one of the United States allies is in an extremely tense and divisive situation will help propel Haley in the polls, and will most likely result in her being the runner-up in Iowa. The weeks leading up to the caucus will help decide who will be the Republican’s second option and could shape how the GOP election will look in the weeks after the first caucus.
